Type your email address or your domain. We read its public email records and explain each one in plain words, with what to ask whoever set up your email. Free, no sign-up.

## The email check

### Will your business email reach customers?

## Why these records matter

Google's email sender guidelines say everyone sending email to Gmail addresses must set up SPF or DKIM, and anyone sending more than 5,000 a day to Gmail addresses must set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Messages that are not authenticated might be marked as spam or rejected, and Google recommends always setting up all three ([Email sender guidelines](https://support.google.com/a/answer/81126)).

**MX** names the servers that take in email for your domain.

**SPF** lists the servers allowed to send email as your domain.

**DKIM** signs each email, so the receiving server can check it came from you and was not changed on the way.

**DMARC** tells receiving servers what to do with email that fails SPF and DKIM, and where to send reports.

## What this check cannot see

It reads public records only. It does not send a test email, read what your emails say, or check the lists of servers known for spam, so a clean result here is one part of the picture.

## Common questions.

### What does the check look at?

The public records for your domain: the mail servers (MX), SPF, DMARC, and DKIM under 25 names email providers often use. It sends no email and reads nothing in your inbox.

### Why does DKIM say 'not found' and not 'missing'?

Each email provider publishes its DKIM key under a name of its own choosing. We try the common names, and if yours uses another, we cannot see it from outside. Your provider can tell you which name it uses.

### Who do I ask to fix a record?

Whoever set up your email: usually your email provider, or the company your domain is registered with. The check gives you the question to send them.
