## Google's rules for asking

**Ask every customer, in the same words.** Google does not allow a business to discourage bad reviews or to ask only the customers it expects to be happy ([Google Maps content policy](https://support.google.com/contributionpolicy/answer/7400114)).

**Offer nothing for a review.** Google says offering incentives, like free or discounted goods or services, in exchange for reviews counts as fake engagement and is strictly prohibited ([Tips to get more reviews](https://support.google.com/business/answer/3474122)).

**Leave the words to them.** Google says a business should not ask for anything in particular to be written, or require or pressure customers to leave a review while they are still on the premises ([Google Maps content policy](https://support.google.com/contributionpolicy/answer/7400114)).

**They need a Google Account.** A customer has to be signed in to a Google Account to leave a review, and Google says they can set one up with an email address that is not Gmail ([Tips to get more reviews](https://support.google.com/business/answer/3474122)).

Google suggests sharing the link on receipts, in thank-you emails and at the end of a chat, and printing the QR code for your shop ([Create a Google link or QR code to request reviews](https://support.google.com/business/answer/16816815)).

## Common questions.

### Where does the link come from?

From your Place ID, the code Google gives every business on its maps. If your link carries it, we read it straight from the link. If not, we find your business on Google by name and you pick it from the list. The link opens the box for writing a Google review of your business.

### Can I get the link from Google instead?

Yes. In your Google Business Profile, choose Read reviews, then Get more reviews, and copy the link or save the QR code. Google says the QR code can only be made on a computer, not on a phone.

### Does it cost anything?

No. There is nothing to sign up for, we send no messages and we keep nothing you type.

### Can you send the asks for me?

Yes. The Google Reviews Engine texts every customer you send us, from your own number and timed to the job, with one reminder to anyone who has not opened the link. £299 setup, then £49 a month.

Want to see a free preview of a new website for your business?

Tell us your business name and town. The website is free, £39 a month keeps us working on it to bring you more customers, and it starts the month your site goes live. Not busier after six months? Every penny back.
